Get access- The main route of endocytosis in most cells is the clathrin-mediated route
- Clathrin is a large protein
- Lines the inner surface of the plasma membrane to form a coated pit
- This pit then buds into the cell to form a vesicle
- Latrunculin B plays a role in relaxing actin to allow the pit to move
- Once the vesicle is intracellular it is termed an endosome
- Lysosomes are the last compartment of the endosome pathway
- Break down waste products
- pH of 4.8
- Contain hydrolytic enzymes manufactured in the ER
- Collagenase
- Hyaluronidase
- Sulfatases, phosphatases etc...
